As parents we sometimes need to take a step back, and let our teenagers make their first step into young adulthood, by attending the college that they choose. Teenagers will often rebel against their parents’ wishes if they feel they are being overly controlling.

Infants and toddlers should not consume soda, diet or otherwise. Stay with drinks that have a lot of nutrients, such as sugar-free juice, water, or milk.

Do not smoke in your home if you have children living with you. Actually, maybe you could quit completely! Secondhand smoke can be just as terrible as smoking itself. Children who breathe second-hand smoke are more likely to develop asthma, pneumonia, bronchitis or other respiratory issues.

When you will be traveling a far distance from home, stop often if you have kids with you to keep them active and happy. While it may seem like a good idea to rush your destination, the quicker route isn’t always the best approach when taking a long-distance journey with the family. Make your road trip a fun experience for your kids by stopping at a park or restaurant with play area and letting them play.

If you are planning a trip with small children, be sure to bring their favorite comfort items along if space allows. While the rest of the family may be having a great vacation, a small child might view it as a disruption to their day-to-day life. Giving children a special toy or security blanket helps them in big changes.

If you choose to adopt, be honest with your child about his biological family. Children who have been adopted are curious as to how they came about in this world. Eventually, they will want some answers, and you’ll be the person they’ll turn to. Avoid lying to them when it comes to the truth about their birth family, as it can cause them to feel resentful toward you if the truth comes out.

Provide your baby with many opportunities to develop their senses. Allowing him or her to smell spices while you bake, squish around in the mud, or listen to tinkling wind chimes can help your child learn all about the world and interacting with it. Be on the lookout for items with interesting textures, colors, shapes, smells and tastes that you can share with your child.
